"Many special events and activities were planned for 2005, St. Paul 's 75th Anniversary Year. With God's help we moved through another great year in 2005 celebrating our longevity and being more successful in fulfilling Christ's great commission."
In March 2005, the Rev. Hugh Williams, Jr., guest preacher helping St. Paul's celebrate a presence of 75 years in Mobile , Alabama , chose for his message the title "This Far By Faith".
Pastor Karnig Kazanjian has certainly helped St. Paul 's come "this far by Faith".
A verse from the Book of Esther holds particular meaning for his pastorate here, St. Paul 's having recently experienced again one of the "down" periods in her history, through which it is felt she has come with flying colors, thanks be to the Holy Spirit, and Pastor Kazanjian. The verse from Esther 4:14b (KJV) is: "Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"
The Reverend Dr. Karnig M. Kazanjian, Jr., came to St. Paul 's on January 1, 2000.
He had been serving a three-point parish in Calhoun County. During that time he also served a Missouri Synod congregation for four years – being the only active clergy person serving both denominations at the same time. Pastor and Kathi served in Tennessee for five years and in northern Alabama for seven and one-half years before coming to Mobile.
A native of New Jersey, Pastor holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Maryland (1964); a Master's degree in psychology and counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey (1967); a Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina (1987); a Doctor of Ministry degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (2003). He was ordained into the public ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1987.
Pastor served sixteen years in the business world before entering the ministry – answering a call that God gave him at the age of thirteen. He was a Customer Service Manager, Office Manager, Vice-President, and President for four mail order companies. With the profound help of the Holy Spirit, Kathi, and his boys, Pastor was able to successfully make the transition to ordained ministry. His business background would prove to be a significant asset in understanding what church members are experiencing in the business world.
Pastor and Kathi have been married for 43 years. They have two sons, Keith and Kevin; two beautiful daughters by marriage, Chris and Sandy; and five wonderful grandchildren – Amy, Abby, Sydney, Logan, and Max.
Pastor's vision continues to be that St. Paul 's be a sanctuary for all people – a safe and accepting place to hear and receive God's forgiveness and blessings. He is confident of the important role that our congregation will experience in the years to come as we serve the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
AMEN.
